Benjamin J. Cheng ARPS LBIPP EP is a British-Chinese photographer based in South Oxfordshire, specialising in architectural, landscape, fine art, and documentary photography.
He holds the Associateship of The Royal Photographic Society (ARPS), Licentiateship of the British Institute of Professional Photography (LBIPP), and European Photographer (EP) distinctions, and a 2:1 BA (Hons) in Photography from Nottingham Trent University.
His practice is grounded in geometric precision, symmetrical composition, and a principled commitment to natural light. The Leica SL series is his primary instrument across architectural, fine art, and portrait work — its rendering of tonal gradation and spatial depth aligns with an approach that prioritises structural clarity and luminous precision over surface spectacle. For documentary and street photography, he works with the Fujifilm X-T series: smaller in presence, closer to the subject, with a film character that complements the quiet and unguarded moments he seeks on the street.
Across all of this work, light is the constant variable. In architecture, it is read in advance — anticipated through the angle of a facade, the depth of a recess, the hour at which a space transforms. In fine art still life, it is sculpted slowly, adjusted by fractions, until the subject reveals what cannot be staged. On the street, it arrives without warning, and the work is simply to be ready.
Whether documenting the transformation of industrial heritage or the fleeting gestures of daily human experience, his work seeks to reveal the underlying structure of what the eye might otherwise pass over.

His photography has received recognition in the BIPP Monthly Image Competitions, with Bronze and Commended awards across multiple categories, and was shortlisted as a Print Finalist in the Architectural & Industrial category at the BIPP International Print Masters 2025. His Licentiateship project was featured in The Photographer magazine. His work has been awarded Triple Gold at the 2026 London Photography Awards (Architecture Exterior, Architecture Interior, London Architecture), and exhibited internationally at Cityscapes by Blank Wall Gallery, Athens (2026), and the 9th Chania International Photo Festival, Crete (July 2026). His fine art photograph Emergence was selected for the Monochrome exhibition at Glasgow Gallery of Photography (June 2026). He was also recognised in the RPS 60-Second Photo Challenge (Winner, 2026).
